During the last few months I’ve seen more and more foreign citizens in  Romania. One group that I have spoken with said that they visit Romania because it’s cheap. They had 1000 Euros for a vacation and they spent a month in Romania.

Another group, that I befriended in a train from Busteni to Bucharest, had another story to tell. When they arrived at the Otopeni Airport one of the girls was hassled by a cab driver who claimed that it`s not safe and that the gypsies are after them, so she and her friend took a cab to Ploiesti. At least the price was good, 50 Euros.

Where to drink in Romania

II`m not going to tell you what museum to visit or why the Palace of Parliament is such a great building. If you want to have a great time and meet awesome  people in Bucharest stay away from the suburbs. The historical centre is where you want to be. A great place to visit is “La Motoare”, on top of the National Theatre of Bucharest (TNB). A lot of couch surfers (CS) meet there for a drink. If you are a heavy drinker, “Oktoberfest” is the place to be. They serve beer in 10L buckets at the affordable price of 75 RON(18 EUR). That’s about 4 bottles of shitty Great Britain beers.

If you want really cheap beer, I suggest going to “Argentin”. It’s across the street from “Club A”, on Lipscani street. One beer is about 3.5 RON, which is less than an Euro.

If you are sick of drinking, or want to drink and see some events happening in Bucharest, I recommend Metropotam.ro Translated into English .

Online social life

If you want to keep in touch with the people that you met in Romania, I suggest that you get a Yahoo! Messenger account, almost everyone in Romania uses it. Some bloggers and Web designers use Gmail and Gtalk, and very few use MSN Messenger. Skype is used to some extent, but isn’t as common as Yahoo!.

The People

Usually the people are very welcoming to strangers, mainly because of their need to compare other countries to Romania. Don’t feel strange when 70% percent of the people from Romania are going to complain about their country, especially about its government. Also, good news for boys: a study revealed that a girl is more likely to fuck a tourist than a local boy, much to do with the fact that this boy will be gone soon, implying no commitment, and other aspects as well. So the chicks will like you more than they like me  .  This is not a particularity of Romania, almost every country is like this, but it’s a bit more obvious around here.

Another good thing about Romania is that a lot of people, especially young people, speak decent English, so you won’t have trouble communicating with people and won’t risk being isolated. That means you won’t have to stick to museums and fancy clubs in order to understand something .

If you are going to learn the Romanian language, you will find out that people are not as nice as they are when you’re a stranger/tourist. But you don`t care about this, you only want to know that Romanian people are friendly, and only care that you have met a lot of ok people .

Drugs

I will compare the Romanian drugs with Great Britain’s. The weed is much more expensive(1G is 15 Euros), but if you like Heroine you find your Mecca here: one gram is about 40 Euros, but you won`t find it easy. Also, remember to watch out for the cops. And please be sure that you don`t buy flour , big waste of money. Special K prices are good, Cocaine prices are average to high.

Cars

Romania is a country of contrast. It`s a poor country, or something like that, but you will see more Lamborghinis and Ferraris than you see in 90% of other countries. Also, this country is full of Mercedeses, BMWs, Audis and other expensive cars. A famous rapper from Romania, Puya, stated that “Some people’s cars are more expensive than their houses”. It`s true, 40 % of the customers that come to my firm have a BMW or an Audi, for which they spend 10 years paying for it, and 5% of them are now bankrupt and lost both the car and their firm. As I’ve said, we live in a country of contrast, with very smart people and very dumb people alike.

I would like to give a special thanks to Fen , for correcting my typos and grammar
